Preparing for Marriage

I’ve said it before, and I’m sure I’ll say it many, many times – wedding planning is a blast (or a massive amount of stress,  you decide!). But during this season of planning, it’s so important to take time to also prepare for your marriage.

This celebration of your love is just the beginning of your commitment to a loving life together; a family, maybe kids, and certainly lots of life’s ups and downs – till death do us part!

It’s been on my heart to put together a short list of resources for preparing young couples for a strong marriage. These are also great resources for strengthening a new marriage, or even a seasoned one!

So, bride-to-be, as you’ve likely dreamed about your wedding day for years – my prayer is that your marriage will last long beyond your wedding day, it’s just the start of something so wonderful!

You may not feel the need for these resources now (although I do recommend reading a book, or premarital counseling to dive a little deeper before saying ‘I do’), but I hope this list becomes a valuable resource to you at a time when it’s needed most!

Sacred Marriage: I adore this book.  It’s a favorite for any stage of both your engagement or marriage. I recommend reading it together as a couple!

Beating 50 Percent: Jeremy + Audrey Rolloff offer articles, podcast episodes, and The Marriage Journal to encourage you in all avenues of your relationship and give you the tools to stay the course.

Dale + Veronica Partridge: I’ve listen to many episodes of Dale + Veronica’s podcast, Real Christianity.  They started out as a marriage themed podcast, and have morphed into something a little broader.  But they offer an online marriage course, and I can attest to their biblical groundings and the value of truth they offer.

Paul David Tripp: This guy is a wealth of information and encouragement for many phases of life.  His books on parenting are top tier, and I know you’ll love his book: What Did You Expect?: Redeeming the Realities of Marriage.

I hope you get the chance to check out one or two of these resources, and if you have any suggestions for me, I’d love to check them out, too!

xo,
Addie
