When we first got married Conor and I lived in a small 2 bedroom rental apartment. The walls were a dark tan and purple. It had rough industrial carpeting. There were not many windows or natural light. As our first home together, we loved it. In that narrow downtown house, we came home as a married couple, lost jobs and started new ones, brought Jase home, made new friends, and so much more! I will forever have very fond memories of Chestnut Ave…But it wasn’t us. When we started looking for houses, we were all over the place with our wants vs. needs. We looked and looked and nothing felt right. We even went so far as to put an offer on a house only to have me sleepless that night and break down in tears because all logic aside, I knew it wasn’t our home.
We had quickly outgrown our apartment when we brought Jase home but we couldn’t find the right fit. It started to feel like we would never find the right place for us. BUT one warm September day, we did. As soon as new the listing appeared in my inbox, I quickly convinced Conor that we must immediately go walk by it. It was gorgeous, it felt right, we looked + I fell in love. It’s old, we know nothing about houses, and a few months in that is still a bit daunting at times (So if you’re the fixer upper type, please reach out! We need some handy people for odd jobs just about everywhere! If you’re a pro at hanging shelves, please help. I’m convinced if I try they’ll be crooked…).
Honest moment, decorating might be my favorite part of the house buying process. It is so fun! And it’s helping me easily justify my almost daily TJX trips…
We’ve focused our efforts right now on our living room since it’s where we host friends, family, and meetings. And overall it finally feels like a finished space. The rest of our home is a work in progress for now, but I’ll post more rooms as we find a bed frame, dining room chairs, and lots of other odds and ends. So don’t be fooled, we’re not perfect and these photos don’t tell the whole story!
xoxo,
Addie
